The archery world has progressed significantly over the past 15-20 years and gone beyond the legal minimums of most countries. What a 90 lb bow could do yesterday, a 75 lb bow can do today.

The legal minimum in Zimbabwe is 90 lb with a 750 grain arrow. What we recommend is sticking to the 750 + grain arrow but trying to get your kinetic energy up to 90-100 lbs. This can be achieved with 75lb bows today. For the thick skinned animals i.e. buffalo and elephant, a two blade broad head should be used, as on buffalo the arrow will be punching through bone as the ribs over lap.

There is virtually no equipment on the market today that can penetrate an elephant bull’s skin and rib and still penetrate both lungs. How ever there is about one hands width between each of the ribs and a well placed arrow will go all the way to the fletching.

Soft skinned animals like the leopard and lion do not need the heavy arrows and 3-4 blade broad heads can be used. As you will be sitting in a blind most of the time, not being able to move to much, as heavy a bow you can comfortably pull sitting down is recommended, but should not be less then 55lbs.

Hunting the cats especially leopard is a complicated shot as you sometimes have seconds to site the target and shoot. Care needs to be taken in acquiring the right sights and as big an aperture peep sight one can find. Practicing at home in a pop up blind and a torch is recommended before commencing on the hunt.

The blinds are well constructed for the different watering points. There are both tree blinds and bunker blinds. The latter constructed out of rock or concrete, to with stand elephants. Most shots will be in the 20-25 yard ranges. Quite often buffalo bulls will beat up a bow shot comrade as can be seen below.
