The words ‘plains game’ does not do justice to this large group of African animals. Each species is unique and beautiful in its own rite.

Each species is a different hunt and they each have their own characteristics, from long hard walks after the mighty eland or stalking through the long grass under the sharp eye of a zebra, there is little that comes close to a good fair chase plains game hunt.

In the Save Valley Conservancy were Shangaan Hunters is based there is a large selection of plains game. All the plains game in the Conservancy are indigenous to the area and no exotics will be introduced. All hunting conducted is on a fair chase system, either spot and stalk or finding tracks and a follow up on foot.

The exception to this rule is bow hunting over water points, however this is not as easy as some folks may perceive.

A good rifle with scope is recommended in the .30 caliber range as these animals have been chased and fed upon by every predator in the wild, they are tough beyond belief.

As heavy a bow as you are comfortable with should be used to make sure the job is done quickly and humanely as possible. For the mid to large antelope a 55-60 lb bow is recommended. /p>
